Aktid has been awarded the overall performance public contract, as a subcontractor, for the construction of the new sorting center operated by Paprec on behalf of the Dordogne Waste Joint Authority (SMD3). The facility will be located in Coulounieix-Chamiers, near Périgueux, replacing the existing facilities in Sarlat, 65 km away, and at La Rampinsolle.
The sorting center will feature a large-scale process including 115 conveyors, 4 ballistic separators and 14 optical sorters. The installation will be capable of treating and recovering 45,000 tonnes of household packaging waste, mainly collected in bags, representing two-thirds of Dordogne’s selective collection.
In terms of innovation, the center will be equipped with the latest quality control module integrating artificial intelligence, in addition to two Smart Regulation systems (mass-based and volume-based), Smart Packing and ABI.
Designed with a focus on reducing energy consumption, the sorting center will recover waste heat from various compressors, particularly those of the optical sorters, to heat the sorting cabin, thereby ensuring optimal comfort for quality control operators.
Assembly of the process will begin in June 2025, with final acceptance scheduled for August 2026. From December 2025, Aktid’s dedicated team will start the industrial commissioning phase with dry runs followed by performance tests under load, before supporting and training operating and maintenance staff in the use of their new industrial tool.
This sorting line, adapted to the extension of the Citeo sorting guidelines, will simplify recycling practices for nearly 400,000 residents across approximately 497 municipalities in the Périgord region.
